Platform itself consists of five main areas – Editorial Services, Media Services, Content Distribution, Audience Services and Archive Services – this covers the full lifecycle of the BBC’s output from creation by colleagues (such as a journalist), display to the audience (for example via BBC News or iPlayer) and kept in the Archives for future reference along with providing the capabilities for participation, personalisation and account (for example login). This role is critical in fulfilling this vision by being an establishing member of an Enablement Team who are focused on building and facilitating relationships between Platform’s customer/client technical and engineering resources and Platform’s own internal engineering teams to lead on designing and architecting new solutions based on Platform’s services and technologies. Platform is a central department within D+E and provides technologies, systems and services that are vital for all of the BBC’s major brands: iPlayer, BBC News, BBC Sport, Sounds, CBeebies, and more – which means that the majority of people in the UK benefit from our department’s activities. With 95% of the UK using the BBC every week, we’re the highest reaching media provider in the UK, driven by the strength of our portfolio across TV, Radio and Online. The BBC is one of the UK’s most well-known and loved brands.
